Egyptian frozen vegetables: okra, molokhia and mixed vegetables

Egyptian frozen vegetables serve a large and loyal market: Middle Eastern, North African and Asian consumers around the world, as well as mainstream retail and foodservice. Three products lead the range: okra, molokhia and mixed vegetables. All ship year-round from frozen stock.

IQF okra

Okra is frozen whole, as IQF, so pods stay separate. Size is the key specification:

GradeDescription
Zero (extra small)The smallest, most tender pods — the premium grade
SmallSmall pods for retail and cooking
MediumLarger pods for foodservice and value retail

Other quality points: bright green colour, intact pods, trimmed stem ends and limited fibre.

Frozen molokhia

Molokhia (jute-mallow leaves) is a signature dish of Egyptian cuisine. It is sold minced and frozen in blocks or portions, ready to cook. Key points: deep green colour, fine and even mince, fresh aroma and no stems. Retail packs of 400 g are standard, with portion packs and foodservice formats on request.

Mixed vegetables

IQF mixed vegetables are blended to the buyer’s recipe: typical components include carrots, peas, green beans and corn. The ratio of each vegetable and the cut size (for example 10×10 mm dice) are fixed in the specification. We can prepare custom blends for private label.

Packing formats

  • 400 g retail bags and packs — printed in the Zaad brand or your own.
  • Foodservice packs — 1–2.5 kg bags for kitchens.
  • Bulk cartons — for repackers and industry.

Frozen chain and traceability

All frozen vegetables are stored and shipped at −18 °C or colder. Temperature fluctuations cause ice crystals and freezer burn. Every pack carries the production lot and date. A frozen container can combine several products — okra, molokhia, mixed vegetables, French fries and strawberries — which helps smaller importers fill a container.

For ethnic retail, authenticity sells: tender okra zero and fine-minced molokhia with an Egyptian origin on the pack.
